Wednesday 31st July  – Windsurf ***** The Dip at Felixstowe  –  sunny and hot.

Foil – 18.97  knot max , 18.24 knot ave, 13.27  knot hour, 17.39 knot mile, 66.57 km (year PB)., 14.34 knot alpha.

Starboard Freeride 150 and a Evolution Freeride foil with a Tushingham Bolt 5.5.

For once the forecast actually delivered, wall to wall sunshine with a nice breeze from the ENE gusting to 20 knots:) With high tide around 8.30 I was in no hurry to get to The Dip which gave me loads of time to do my exercises in the back garden before setting of, arriving at the beach at 11.30 with Robert already there setting up his foil. Mag came so she could get her daily walk in, she had a quick chat with Robert before setting off for home with a tail wind! There was loads of beach to launch and conditions looked perfect so the boards were quickly on the beach. I then rigged my 5.5 with Robert going for 5.3 and he was first away and was soon up and flying. Shortie on I launched and was also flying but to be honest the sail was a little under for a lot of the session and I had to pump up to get going a few times, I nearly came in to put the 6.5 on but stuck with the smaller sail which is a joy to sail with:) I did my usual long runs up to two miles out, the sea got fairly big out but was smoother closer to the shore but as usual when the wind is in this direction it is lighter close in:( I had done around 20 miles when I decided to came ashore for a drink and a snack and to take some pics of Will the winger doing some nice jumps before heading out again to try to get to 30 miles, in the end I did over 40 as the wind had picked up a little. I got a cracking set of mile runs with my top ten all being over 15 knots and was pleased to get an 18 knot average the first for several weeks! So a lovely mellow session, surprisingly fast considering I was a little under powered and got a year PB for distance traveled, just great to be out in the warm sunshine. There were a few kiters out plus a couple of wingers and three foilers and a good day was had by all I think:)

PS – July has been quite a good month with a years best of 12 sessions sailing 267 miles:)
